On April 26, 2001, we found out we were expecting after 5 years of trying-we had previously had laparoscopic surgery to remove cysts and then an HSG test to ensure tubes where clear. I already had two children, ages 10 and 9. Within a couple of weeks, I started spotting. We went immediately to the hospital where an ultrasound was performed but they ruled out that I wasn't pregnant. They told me to come back in two weeks just to make sure that my dates weren't wrong. We were devastated, but we went and had another pregnancy test done just to make sure and it still came back positive.
I went for the ultrasound on May 17, 2001 and were told again that we were wrong--we weren't pregnant. We went home and I was in some pain. After a couple of hours, the cramping was unbearable. We decided to go to the hospital but went to a different one from the one that did the ultrasound that day. After a couple of hours, it was determined that I truly was pregnant and was suffering an ectopic pregnancy. My blood pressure dropped drastically and I was rushed by ambulance to the other hospital and taken into surgery. I was so scared. I had no idea what was happening or if I would see my two children again. Surgery went okay. They were able to save my tube but due to massive hemorrhaging, I required a blood transfusion 4 days later.
