Many people are incorrect in associating a medical "abortion" for an ectopic pregnancy (or any other type of pregnancy loss) with a social "abortion" by choice. I also find it very disheartening that one extreme section of a particular religion accepts one form of treatment for an ectopic pregnancy, while rejecting another. The ONLY choice ever made regarding an ectopic pregnancy is with reference to treatment.
My personal experience and contact with other women who have experienced an ectopic pregnancy dictates choosing the treatment which is safest for the mother, since (sadly) the pregnancy cannot survive (in any course of treatment). I spend much of my time writing to pro-life groups reprimanding them for using pictures or descriptions of an ectopic pregnancy in their literature. I find this type of use distasteful and out of context when discussing elective abortion. To date, all sites contacted have added a disclaimer regarding the seriousness of ectopic pregnancy. I make no judgements against those who have had an elective abortion. Judging another is not my job, nor is it the job of anyone else on this Earth. To do so, is to blatantly assume the role of God.
This section deals with Religious Extremists and the harrassment of women who were given methotrexate in the resolution of their ectopic pregnancy. I respect religion-many of us frame our lives around our religions. However, the topic of ectopic pregnancy is not a moral debate, and any debate regarding ectopic pregnancy hits a raw nerve with me.
