Debbie M's Story

On approximately September 25, I discovered via an HPT that I was pregnant.  We were having a surprise 50th birthday party for my mother-in-law and decided to announce it then.  On Monday I called and scheduled my appointment with the doctor-I saw him and he confirmed that I was pregnant but barely (smile) 4 weeks.  I saw him on a Friday.  On the following Monday morning, about 11:00, I started bleeding.  I had been cramping the entire time (by the way) but thought it was normal.  I think in the back of my mind I knew something was wrong because it was different than my pregnancy with my now 2-year old son, who I thank God I have.

I called a few of my friends over for support and advice.  The entire world knew how excited we were to be pregnant and how badly we wanted, this especially me.  They stayed with me for a while and then left. By 4:00 P.M., the pain intensified.  By the way, I had also had bad shoulder pain for the entire two weeks.  The pain got worse.  I called my OB/GYN, and he thought for sure that I was miscarrying and suggested that if the pain worsened I should go to the ER.  I had no choice...I barely made it out the door before I started vomitting.  I got in the car and my husband ran every toll on the way there.  The pain worsened by the minute.

By 7:00 P.M. they had done an ultrasound and confirmed the worse.  I had an ectopic pregnancy.  My doctor met me there and said he would try to save it, but at worse I would lose my tube.  I was devastated, but I still thank God it was not a hysterectomy.  By 10:00 P.M., the surgery began.  The
next time I woke up was 10 o'clock the following morning, with my friend Dorothy by my side.  It was not until later that afternoon after speaking to the doctor that I realized how much danger I was in.  He told me the tube ruptured to about an inch hole and it was too bloody for him to repair, so he proceeded to remove my left tube and the baby.  I was out in four days and he said we could try again in three months and that my other tube was in good condition.  I stayed out of work for three weeks and have just returned.

Physically I feel about 70%, emotionally 25%.  Thanks for allowing me to share my story.  It really adds to the healing process in addition to reading similar stories. Thank you.
